ABOUT THE PROJECT
This project aims to promote the use of Mandarin in students, especially those in pre-school. The target beneficiaries include parents of students who dislike Mandarin but come from a Mandarin speaking environment, as well as those who view Mandarin as a vital tool of communication. It consists of a research paper inclusive of reasons behind students’ dislike for Mandarin, and a sharing session with parents. The sharing session will be held on 18 January 2020 at Blk 42, Level 1, Room 14, Glocal Connect Village in Temasek Polytechnic.
MOTIVATION BEHIND THE PROJECT
I've always been interested in the Chinese Language and have hoped that more people would like it as well. However, most of my friends dislike it and I’d like to understand why.
Also, I feel that students’ standard of speaking their own mother tongue has dropped significantly in the recent years. My younger cousin has difficulties holding conversations in Mandarin even though her parents speak Mandarin at home, so I wish to help her and other students be more confident in using Mandarin.
Being a psychology student helps me in this project as I’ve learnt people feel attraction due to various reasons, which aids me in planning a sharing session that will appeal to the public.
